In the exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Marathon, through the findings of the excavations, the history of the area from prehistoric times to the Roman period is presented. The visitor has the opportunity to come into contact with the evolution of ceramics from the Neolithic to the classical period. Important historical events are highlighted through specific exhibits, while one of the museum's most important exhibits is the tombstone of the 4th c. BC, as well as the Ionic capital of the trophy erected at the site of the great battle of Marathon (490 BC). The exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Marathon is structured thematically and some of the most important exhibits are Neolithic pottery from the Cave of Pan, pottery of Geometric to Classical times, embossed portraits and inscriptions of the house of Herod Atticus (2nd century AD), as well as parts of the Trophy of the Battle of Marathon.
