Poros / Kalavria (Kalavria)
Initially it was united with the opposite mainland of Peloponnese and was cut off only in late antiquity due to subsidence of the soil, resulting in the creation of a narrow isthmus between the island and the opposite island of Galata. In the archaic and classical era (7th - 4th century BC) it belonged to the territory of Troizena and gained its independence for a short time in the Hellenistic era. The small ancient settlement is located 5 km north of today's Poros. The sanctuary was the seat of Amphictyonia of various naval cities. The area was inhabited during the Mycenaean period. There are signs of worship as early as the Geometric period (8th century BC), but the Doric temple was built around 520 BC. In the area of the market of the ancient settlement, public buildings of the 3rd century BC were excavated. In some places parts of the Hellenistic fortification are preserved.
