The Holy Monastery of Kornofolia is built at a distance of one kilometer west of the village of Kornofolia Soufli, on the hill "Kouri" and is commemorated in memory of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. When exactly the Monastery was built is unknown to us. Local tradition wants it to have a history of about four centuries. What is unknown to us is that at the beginning of the 18th century it was unofficially given as a metochi to the Holy Monastery of Iberon on Mount Athos. In the year 1747, with the consent of the residents of Kornofolia and with the actions of the Metropolitan Didymoteichos Auxentios (May 1744 - July 1757) and the abbot of the Monastery, Hieromonach Auxentios, the ownership of the Iberon Monastery was formalized and validated.
After it was granted to the Monastery of Iberon, the fathers of the ruler of the Monastery brought to their Metochi the icon of the Virgin of Portaitissa, a copy of the icon of the Virgin of Portaitissa located in the Monastery of Iberon, which proved to be equally miraculous as the original.
