In the traditional settlement of Stagiates, 10 km northeast of Volos, is the Monastery of the Annunciation. This is where the old man Ephraim Philotheitis of America lived when he came out of Mount Athos. The walled monastic area includes the church of Evangelistria (three-aisled stone-built basilica) in the center of the courtyard, an older stone church (cruciform with dome) and two-storey buildings with arches (cells, guest houses). Today, 15 nuns live in the Monastery. It celebrates on March 25.
