The Monastery of Panagia Odegetria Portaria is located at an altitude of 620 m, 500 m from Portaria. It is a women's Monastery, which follows the old calendar, and hosts about 30 nuns. It was founded in 1961 and is today a Metochi of the Holy Monastery of Philotheos of Mount Athos. The former Philotheist Elder Ephraim of America (b. 1928) settled here and organized the Women's Monastery together with Elder Makrina (1921-1995). The site was the residence of an Englishman, which he granted to the monastery, and then the rest of the buildings (auxiliary areas, cells) were built. Within the monastery area, the old small stone-built church of Panagia Odegetria, the newer church of the Dormition of the Virgin (three-aisled basilica) and the tomb of the old woman Makrina can be seen.
