MONASTERY OF PANAGIA ANTINITSA

Built on the slopes of Othrios, it was destroyed in 1944 by the occupying forces to be rebuilt several years later. The icon of Panagia, which is considered miraculous, was saved. The Monastery was a stronghold of the fighters in the revolution of 1821. Its nickname is probably related to the ancient city of Antinoitissa which was founded in Othry, in the 2nd century AD by the Roman emperor Hadrian.
