The monastery of Evangelistria, which is located on the mountainside and its fortress appearance, is associated with pirate raids. It was built in 1712, on the ruins of an older Byzantine Monastery, by the Skopelite monk Kaisarios Daponte and belongs to the Xiropotamos monastery of Mount Athos.
There are old icons from the 14th century, its iconostasis is covered with gold leaf (it was made in a workshop in Constantinople) and the few nuns who live in the Monastery make beautiful works of folk art and wonderful textiles.
