The Monastery is a women's complex of the end of the 19th century and, to be precise, 1883, as a built-in plaque states. Religiously, it belongs to I.M. Gortynos and Megalopolis and administratively belongs to the Municipality of Megalopolis. Before entering the straight to Megalopolis where the turn for the village of Makrisi is located the Monastery of Panagia Makrisiou. Stepping through the front door, you are greeted by the spotless courtyard of the Monastery. On the left, is the chapel of Agios Fanourios and next to it is the Guest House with the Cells. The Catholic dominates in the center in the rhythm of a single-aisled Basilica. Internally, both the frescoes and the portable icons, are sacred objects of attention and research by the devout pilgrim; as well as the icon of the Dormition of the Virgin, in whose memory the Monastery celebrates (August 15).
We do not know what was the reason that led the first people or the first founder to build the monastery here, but if you consider that in those years this spot was difficult and therefore difficult to access then it is not at all unlikely that there was a church in the name of the Dormition of Theotokos and, along the way, one cell brought another and then the entire monastery.
