AGNOUNTOS MONASTERY

The oldest monastery of Epidauria, built around the 11th century, is located 2 km from Nea Epidaurus on the eastern borders of Argolis-Corinthia. It has a fortress-like shape with two turrets, battlements, armories, a spire and a high enclosure. The architecture of the monastery is wonderful, similar to that of Hagia Sophia. Her temple is dedicated to the "Assumption of the Virgin" and has a dome with 17m. height. Its walls are covered with unique hagiographies. On the right side of the monastery, a path leads to the chapel of Agios Ioannis, which also has beautiful paintings.
