Seven (7) kilometers from the Community of Protis and at an altitude of 930 m, on Mount Pangeo with a panoramic view of the plain of the Prefecture, is the I. Monastery of the Ascension. point, which from the 18th c. there was the homonymous, but male, monastery. The offer of the Monastery to the Christians of the region is great. This was also the reason for the repeated destructions from time to time by the Turkish and Bulgarian conquerors, which it suffered, with greater ones in the years 1913, 1917 and 1944. The Catholic Church of the Monastery is a rare cruciform rotunda, built in the style of the Holy Ascension of Mount of Olives of St. Places. In the Monastery are kept holy relics of St. I. Chrysostomou, Arsenio of Cappadocus, etc. There is a guesthouse only for organized groups. Today the Monastery has twenty (20) nuns, who are engaged in hagiography, hiero-sewing, gold embroidery, pyrography and candle making. It is celebrated 40 days after Easter (of the Ascension).
