On the Serres - Kavala road, immediately after the Kormista Community, on the borders of the Serres - Kavala prefectures, on the northern side of the verdant Mount Pangaio, in a wonderful location, at an altitude of 753 m, is the Holy Monastery of Panagia tis Eikosifinissa. It is one of the two holy places in Eastern Macedonia, which continues today to be a pole of attraction for many believers, who come to worship the unmade image of the Virgin Mary and to relax in its peaceful surroundings. The name of the Monastery, according to the prevailing version, is due in the miracle of the icon of the Virgin Mary, which shone and spread light phoenix, i.e. red, like the purple of the Phoenicians. This is where the name comes from: Eikon foinissoussa - Eikon - foinissa - Eikosifoinissa. The Monastery, especially in the period of the Turkish occupation, he offered too much for the preservation of Orthodoxy and Hellenism in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, so that he justly provoked the wrath, first of the Turks and then of the Bulgarians. It repeatedly faced their destructive raids and raised a number of martyrs. The first builder of the Monastery is Agios Germanos (518 AD).
It celebrates on August 15 in memory of the Virgin Mary, on September 14 in memory of Tim. of the Cross and on November 21 in memory of the Entry of the Virgin.
