The Women's Sacred Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin is located on a green hill in the Municipality of Kyrros, Prefecture of Pella.
In the past, until 200 years ago, there was a men's monastery with 100 monks and a large property, but it was abandoned.
In 1979, a new period of the monastery begins. Completely abandoned and damaged, where many images were stolen in the 70s, it slowly began to recover with the help of the villagers and residents of the area.
Fortunately, the icon of the Virgin Mary was not damaged because although the residents took her to the village church, she returned alone, so the villagers were convinced that the Virgin Mary has a way to protect herself.
The monastery celebrates the fifteenth of August, so crowds of people from all over Greece and abroad flock here to worship the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary and attend church.
In the monastery relics of Saints are saved and kept, which were brought by pious refugees from the "lost" homelands.
In the precincts of the temple there are rock carvings by the local artist Minasides from Trifylli.
