The monastery was founded in 1592 and its iconography was completed in 1652.
The monastery was visited by Kosmas the Aetolos where he taught the Divine Word. At that time the monks were suffering from an epidemic. Kosmas Aitolos brought water from a nearby spring, performed a consecration and when the monks drank they were cured. At the point where the water rises, a chapel of Agios Kosmas of Etolos has been built, which is visited by many believers to drink the consecrated water for a blessing.
