MONASTERY OF SAINT JOHN OF KAPAROS - Paros

The dissolved Monastery of Agios Ioannis is located southwest of the village of Lefkes, at the foot of Mount Agioi Pantes (or Prophet Elias). The monastery, which is now abandoned, consists of the small church of Agios Ioannis and a ground floor building. Based on the inscription preserved on the lintel of the entrance to the church, the Monastery was renovated in 1646. Inside the church, there is a marble iconostasis (1793) built on the initiative of the hieromonk Isaias Parousis. An 1826 document mentions the simultaneous election of 2 abbots at the monastery, the Rev. Stefanos Skourtos (hagiographer) and the monk Athanasios. Today the Kaparos Monastery belongs to the heirs of the deceased Ioannis Kaparos from Lefkes. The monastery celebrates on September 29.
