MONASTERY OF SAINT THALLELAIOS

MONASTERY OF SAINT THALLELAIOS - Naxos

The monastery of Agios Thallelais together with Fotodoti and Agia are considered to be among the oldest monasteries of the island, since it is mentioned that in 1509 Duke Crispos dedicated these three monasteries to the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Saint Thalleaios lived during the reign of Numerianus, in 284. He came from Lebanon and was the son of Berukius and Pomylia.
He endured many tortures to convert to paganism and was finally beheaded.
He had studied medicine and offered his services without ever taking money (cash). And today many miracles are reported. In his memory, the sequence written by Saint Petros Nikodimos the Saint in 1972 is sung, and in the spacious courtyard of the church, the largest festival of our island took place and continues to take place.
