In the southwestern part of the island, 8 km from Chora and near the village of Agios Arsenios is the Monastery of Agios Ioannis the Forerunner. The dissolved Monastery belongs to the Parish of Agios Spyridon. It is a privately owned "monastery-seat" (not organized) of the Michalis Tzivi family that dates back to the 19th century. The building complex includes the church of Agios Ioannis, the chapel of Agios Vasilios, a mansion, a series of ground-floor buildings (cells, guesthouses) and the tomb of the owners. The small, vaulted church was renovated five years ago. It celebrates with a big festival on August 29.
