On the western side of Chora, near the location of Sclavonicola in the Dafne area, the Dafne Monastery is located. Agia Philothei of Athens (1522-1589) founded in 1550 the Metohi Dafne which consisted of 20 nuns and five priests and served as a convent-refuge to protect women from the attacks of the Turks. Here the Saint lived for a while, initiating the sisters into the monastic life. The monastery functioned as a women's convent until the 19th century when it was looted by the Turks. The relics of the Monastery were rescued by the monks of the neighboring Monastery of Episkopi. The temple-pilgrimage of the Holy Trinity and ruined buildings are preserved from the building complex. Today the estate, where the monastery is located, belongs to the Romanou family, which has undertaken to complete the repair work on the monks' cells.
