On a hill of Mount Agios Simeon dominates the walled Monastery of Agios Simeon, which was built on an ancient sanctuary of the goddess Aphrodite, overlooking the sea. For the construction of the monastery, marble members from the ancient temple were used such as columns and capitals at the entrance. The building complex, built in the first decades of the 20th century, includes the church of Agios Simeon, a double bell tower at the entrance and in the courtyard, and ground-floor buildings. The long and narrow church, dedicated to Saints Simeon the Stylite and Simeon the Theodochos, has a white iconostasis and is holographic with hagiographies on the walls (representations of full-length Saints) and the ceiling. The Monastery celebrates the 1st of September with a big festival, known as that of Ai-Symios, and on the 3rd of February.
