The Monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos is located in the center of the island, on Mount Pyrgos at an altitude of 713 meters. It is a Metochi of the Holy Monastery of Chozoviotissa Amorgos. The exact date of foundation of the monastery is not known. It is likely that it was built during the years of the Turkish occupation. The church, built on top of an ancient temple, was part of the walled monastery which is not functioning today. Repairs were carried out about 40 years ago. In the center of the large courtyard is the church of the Saint, which is white, single-aisled, cruciform with a dome. The church celebrates with a big festival on June 24th of Agios Ioannis Kleidon.
