According to inscriptions, the monastery was built in the 17th century, without this meaning that there was not an earlier one in its place. The catholicon of the monastery is dedicated to Agios Ioannis and its facade, which shows strong elements of Renaissance architecture, impresses.
The Atalis Monastery, due to its location and proximity to Bali Bay, played an important role in the revolution of 1821. It was later deserted and began to regain life after 1982, when it was restored.
