The monastery of Ag. Georgiou was built during the Second Byzantine period (961-1204) and was destroyed by Hairedin the barbarian in 1538. Later, at the beginning of the 16th century, three brothers came from Rhodes to avoid the Turkish yoke and settled in Vrachasi. One of them, Nikolaos, was guided by a light and found the icon of Saint George, in the place where the small church was built. Later he became an ascetic in a small cave located on the top of Anavlochos and slept on a rock 1.50 x 1.50, which he carved himself.
According to tradition, Rhodian sailors came and, guided by a light, went to the tomb and took his remains and carried them to Rhodes. Today a large cross on the top of Anavlochos bears witness to his grave. All the travelers stop to worship the miraculous icon of Saint George, which bears the marks of the three bullets he received from the hands of the Turks and ask for the protection and grace of the Saint and praise God for the beauty of the natural landscape.
