On a green low hill in the eastern part of the plateau is built the Monastery of Panagia Krustallenia, dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin. According to an inscription preserved in the church, the monastery was founded in the 16th century, by the abbess of the Monastery of Panagia tou Spileio in Kalavryta, Paladia Danasis, when the Venetians allowed the repopulation of the Lasithi plain. The monastery played an important role in the revolutions of the 19th century. as the seat of the Revolutionary Committee. It was destroyed in 1823. and in 1866.
