It was founded in 1866 on privately owned property of the Chlapoutakis family and according to tradition in the ruins of an old monastery from 1430. It has comfortable facilities and a tastefully created surrounding area. From up there you look down on the whole surrounding area. As an extension of the old Church, the new Church of Agios Ioannou Prodromos has been built. In the precincts of the monastery there is the tomb of Bishop Meletios Chlapoutakis and next to it is the tomb of his sister Irene.
