MONASTERY OF SAINT FOTEINI - Heraklion

The Holy Sanctuary "Agia Fotini the Samaritis" is located in Ellinoperamata (or Linoperamata) Heraklion. Ellinoperamata is a seaside village in the province of Malevizio and belongs to the municipal district of Rodia. The Sanctuary was founded in June 1991 by the archbishop of Crete Timotheo. On the site of the monastery is the church of Agia Foteini, the chapel of Agios Fanourios, the cells of the monk brothers as well as the tomb of the founder of the monastery, Archbishop Timotheus. Holy Great Martyr Photini came from the city of Sychar in Samaria. The evangelist John (D'1 - 38) refers to her life and martyrdom. Saint Fotini spread the Gospel in Africa and in Rome during the years of Emperor Nero (54-68 AD) and was martyred together with her sons and her five sisters.

The church celebrates February 26 and Samaritan Sunday.
