The Monastery of the Theotokos "Our Lady of the Angels" is located near the town of Lefkimmi, at the southern end of the island. From an inscription found in the niche of the step of the church of the Virgin, the date of construction of the church is set in 1656. According to other sources, the Monastery was built between 1696-1700 by the family of Varlaam Kapodistrias in honor of the Virgin who saved his sons from certain drowning. During the time of the British occupation (1814-64), the Monastery burned down, but the temple was preserved and housed the sick during the plague epidemic that broke out on the island. In 1933, after years of abandonment, the old woman Anastasia Vlachou (1910-1979) settled in the monastery, who worked hard for the restoration and reopening of the Monastery. The monastic complex includes the church of Theotokos and a building that serves the needs of pilgrims. The entrance to the monastery is through the two-story Corfu bell tower with a triple spire. The temple is of royal type with built-in external arches. Inside, there are fragments of frescoes (17th - 18th centuries) with representations of the Platytera Lady of the Angels, the Hierarchs (in the alcove of the step) and the Extreme Humiliation (in the alcove of the intention). Also preserved in the iconostasis of the church is the Holy Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos "Lady of the Angels" which follows the type of the Virgin Guide.
