In the Figareto Kanoniou area of Corfu is the Holy Monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos of Kassopita. The Monastery must have existed before the year 1706. It went through a period of crisis where it "gradually fell into decline and desolation". In 1850 it was bought by the Epiroite hieromonk Gennadios, who renovated it from the ground up and installed three nuns. Since then the Monastery became a nucleus of female monasticism, until 1991 when it was converted into a men's monastery.
During the 20th century was attached as a shareholder of the I. Monastery of Agioi Theodoros Stratia.
The Monastery has post-Byzantine icons, silver vessels and candles and a gilded reliquary with relics of holy martyrs. It should be noted that the Monastery is located within an archaeological site. In the past, important archaeological findings were found in her garden.
The Monastery celebrates the 8th of May, in commemoration of the miraculous recovery of the blind Stephen, a miracle performed by the Virgin Mary in her homonymous church, in the village of Kassiopi, in the year 1530.
