To go to the Holy Monastery of Panagia Myrtidiotissa (or Myrtariotissa, as the locals call it) you will follow the passable dirt road that leads from Gialos or Chorio to the monastery.
Panagia Myrtariotissa celebrates the Fifteenth of August, when a great festival takes place.
During the holy festival of the monastery, they build a hut for the Virgin Mary, bake bread, offer fluffy svingos and sing Praises to the Virgin. After vespers there is a revelry with traditional instruments and island purposes.
The small church of Panagia is historic with remarkable post-Byzantine frescoes of the 18th century. Around the chapel of the monastery there are cells and other monastic buildings, while in the courtyard lush green tufted trees generously offer their shade to pilgrims on hot summer days. From here the panoramic view is amazing, the view reaches as far as the coast of Asia Minor.
