The history of the Methanas is very old, as evidenced by its archaeological finds that start from the depths of the stone age. From ancient times until today, Methana is known for the hot springs with healing properties that flow from the rocks of the peninsula.

Troizina , hometown of the heroic Theseus, took its name from the ancient Troizina that was built on the northern slope of Mount Aderas. The location of the ancient Acropolis is located west of the current settlement where today the medieval castle stands. The ancient city was surrounded by two long walls, which are preserved in good condition and are a picturesque sight.
