Ano Syros, the medieval town of the island inhabited mainly by the Catholic community, is built on the hill of Agios Georgios, a three-aisled basilica for which legends and traditions date back to the construction of the church in the early Byzantine period. Next to the church, the Historical Archive of the Catholic Diocese of Syros is exhibited, with relics and rare manuscripts. Other attractions are also the Capuchin monastery, the Jesuit monastery with thousands of books and historical documents, the Folk Art Museum, the Markos Vamvakaris Museum and others.
