WATERFALL CAVE OF EDESSA

WATERFALL CAVE OF EDESSA - Pella

The Waterfalls Cave in Edessa is the only "primitive" exploited cave in Greece.

The area of the Waterfalls is perfectly landscaped. Right next to them, the visitor finds the entrance to the small but very interesting cave

With the term "primitive" we characterize the caves that have been created by the deposition of dissolved limestone on the moss that grows under the falls.

Dissolved limestone coats them creating thin layers of CaCO3 and so they can be preserved by forming travertine.

This process is called ossification.
