KAMARES CAVE

NE of the village of Kamares (57 km from Heraklion), is the Cave of Kamares which was established, during Minoan times, as a place of worship probably of the goddess Eileithyia. Here were found the famous Kamaraic vases exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. You will reach the cave only on foot, after a journey of about 4 hours, from the village of Kamares.
