The caves of the area were inhabited from the Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age. It was founded by Thasios in the 7th century BC to control the Thracian plain inland. It is located on the peninsula of Molyvotis (Koursoumlou), west of Ismaris lake. The ruins of the ancient city are not preserved in good condition. The facilities of the ancient port are visible. It is worth mentioning the tunnels of the city's aqueduct with kennels and water wells (5th century BC) on the beach. Burial mounds at Mitriko site.
