It was founded at the beginning of the 2nd century. A.D. by the emperor Trajan (98 - 117 AD), near Egnatia Odos. The ancient city is located in an area with abundant water, at the foot of the Agios Georgios hill in the village of Loutros. Remains of the fortification are preserved, scattered architectural members from buildings and a large burial mound with rich offerings.
The city was an important administrative, military and ecclesiastical center in the early Christian period. Place of martyrdom of Agia Glyceria. It is fortified again by Justinian I (6th century). Remains of a wall and an early Christian basilica, which preserves part of the sculptural decoration.
