In 1891, excavations carried out revealed the ancient theater of Gytheio, at the northern end of the city, as well as the acropolis west of the theater.
The hollow theater had a diameter of 75 meters and today the first 6 rows of seats, parts of the 7th and 8th, and part of the orchestra are preserved. The scene has also been excavated but is not visible today. In the center there is a later well.
The theater is located in the Paleopolis site and was built during the Roman era, specifically during the early imperial times.
