The importance of the civilization of Argos can also be seen from Homer's epics in which all Greeks are called Argives, but also from the tragic poets whose many tragedies refer to Argos. One of the most important monuments found in the archaeological site of Argos is the pyramid of Ellinikos. It dates back to the end of the 4th century BC. century and there are several theories about the use it might have had (mound, fortress, phryctorium). Contrary to the dating of the monument accepted by the scientific community, some claim that this pyramidal building was built shortly after the tombs of the Pharaohs, the well-known pyramids, and indicates the relationship of the Argives with Egypt. Other ancient monuments are the ancient market, the castle on the hill of Larissa, the chambered tombs of the hill of Aspidos and the ancient theater of Argos which in its original form could hold 20,000 spectators and also served as the church of the Municipality. Many archaeological findings can be found in the Argos museum which is housed in the old building of Kallergis. Also, in the center of the city, there is the holy church of Agios Petros, bishop of Argos.
