( Chalastra)
In Toumba Topsin (or Toumba Gefyras), on the E. bank of the Axios, there is a settlement with traces of habitation from the late Neolithic (3000 BC) to the late Hellenistic years (1st century BC). Perhaps this is where the ancient Chalastra was. Four burial mounds with graves from the Archaic to the Hellenistic years were identified in the area. Among them stands out a single-chambered Macedonian tomb (end of the 4th century BC) with frescoes of excellent art and conservation with banquet scenes and warriors on its facade. The findings of the tombs are kept in the Museum of Thessaloniki.
