Pella

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF ALOROS

The ancient settlement that was discovered on the banks of the Almopeia river, SE of the Municipal Division of Aloros, of the Municipality of Aridaia in the prefecture of Pella, was one of the cities of ancient Almopia, as can be seen from its fortified form and from its important position that gave it the ability to control the plain, which stretches out in front of him.

In the settlement, during the limited excavation investigations between 1996-2000, it was found that it was inhabited from the Late Bronze Age up to the Late Roman years.

With the excavations, evidence was collected about the fortification of the settlement and in limited residential remains found inside. In the western fortification, which was cleared in a length of 150 m, an upper limestone phase of the late Roman times and parts of the earlier Hellenistic period were found. Corresponding phases were found at the gate of the settlement, which has dimensions of 7x7.80 m.
