The archaeological site of Gournia is of great interest to the visitor since it is a place of strong archaeological importance. In the excavations, a medium-sized settlement of the Minoan heyday has been found and for this reason it has been called "Pompeii of Minoan Crete". It is built on a hill near the sea, on the Isthmus of Ierapetra. Various tools have also been discovered there, which reveal many facts about the daily life of the Minoans who were engaged in fishing, agriculture, animal husbandry and other tasks.
