The excavation that took place in the area in 1976 brought to light an important archaeological discovery. The area of Komos attracted the attention of archaeologists in 1924, when the famous archaeologist Arthur Evans heard about the large ancient storage vessels found there. The area of Komos was actually an important port, from Minoan palaces with massive stone complexes and a city around 1800-1200 BC. The post-Minoan era includes a sacred temple until the beginning of the Roman period where it was abandoned (around 200 AD). Various objects discovered there come from Cyprus, Egypt and Sardinia.
