The Minoan mansion in Vathypetro was excavated by S. Marinatos in 1949 and is located at Piso Livadia, 4km south of Archanes. It can be characterized as a "small palace" as it includes a central and western courtyard, two floors with external walls of hewn stones, a small tripartite sanctuary, a three-sided portico and a storehouse, and it was a toparch facility. It was built around 1550 BC. and after its destruction - possibly by an earthquake - around 1450 BC. it was used as a farmhouse.
A grape press installation was discovered in the south wing, while an olive press was found in the courtyard. A corridor of 30m. about leads to a pottery workshop and ceramic kiln.
