ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF AMNISSOS

The habitation in the area of ​​Paliochora (Amnisos) begins from the Middle Minoan period (19th century BC). The name is mentioned as a-mi-mi-so on the signs of Linear B΄ (Greek language). The "Mansion of Lilies" is destroyed by fire in the 15th century BC. Complexes C and E continue to be inhabited until the 12th century BC. In the 7th century BC (archaic era) the sanctuary of Zeus Thenata was founded, which remained in use until the 2nd century AD. The hill was inhabited during the Venetian occupation.
