Thesprotia, scattered with antiquities and rich in ancient written tradition, has to show an inexhaustible wealth of monuments of the timeless cultural heritage of Greece, dozens of fortified and unfortified settlements, castles and necropolises, but also hundreds of sites with individual ancient monuments, tombs, Byzantine churches and monasteries and post-Byzantine but also newer settlements. The recent findings of archaeological research, mainly in the area of Eleftherochori, north of Paramythia, but also in other areas (Mesovuni, Neochori, Parapotamos), confirm the opinion of a significant presence of prehistoric man during the Middle Paleolithic period.
