Acropolis on the Euboean Gulf, which was inhabited throughout the Bronze Age, mainly in the Middle Helladic and Early Mycenaean periods (2000 - 1500 BC). The name of the city is mentioned on Linear B tablets from Thebes. The city had a natural harbor and was inhabited from prehistoric times to the Roman period (1st century AD). The cult and the sanctuary of Artemis Amarisia were famous, already from the geometric times (9th - 8th century BC). The ancient settlement stretched on the Paleochora hill, while the sanctuary was on the plain.

Foundations of a niche of an early Christian basilica, building remains and graves of rough construction from the same period.
