In Thassos, in the 3rd and 4th centuries BC, the ceramic workshops mainly manufactured amphorae in which the famous Thassos wine was stored, which was exported in large quantities throughout the ancient world. The seals that were imprinted - before the amphora was fired in the kiln - on the handle, today provide valuable information from an economic and archaeological point of view.
One of these ceramic workshops was discovered in Fari, near Skala Maries. Luxurious ceramic products from fine-grained fine clay were produced there, as well as everyday utensils from coarse-grained clay. The workshop dates back to the 6th century. BC while it has been particularly well preserved, as the oven, tanks and buckets are preserved.
