ANCIENT WALL (Archaeological Site)

From the fortification of the ancient city of Kos - Meropeia, its northern side, with a width of 4.80 m, was revealed to a large extent, forming a zigzag line at a short distance from the coast of the port. The wall is made of large rectangular treated stone plinths, and various construction phases can be distinguished. A gate protected by a tower was discovered at its south-eastern end. The construction of the wall dates back to the 4th century. B. X. It was destroyed by the earthquake of 142 B. X. and was not repaired again.

The port area was outside the fortified enclosure and was protected by a separate wall that started from the city wall and in a southerly direction surrounded the temples and shops of the port quarter. The construction of the harbor wall is slightly later than the city wall.

The House consists of two floors and is stone, made of stone from the island, the wooden roof has old tiles and the furniture is handmade copies of the period. The seminars held at the House every day are cooking, ceramics, philosophy, baking, agriculture, mosaic and pebbles.

Visible traces of the ancient fortification can be seen today from the mouth of the port to the current Governor's Office and on the sides of the ancient market to the Archaeological Museum.
