ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF CASTELLORIZO - Castellorizo

South of the settlement of Kastellorizos, rises the mountain of Vigla, on the neck of which a fortification wall has been identified, which due to its "cyclopean" masonry, as boulders have been used for its construction, in the past there was the opinion that it was a creation of Mycenaean times , that is why the name "Cyclopeian wall" prevailed.
Finally, according to recent studies, this fortification project refers to similar constructions that are common on the opposite coast of Lycia from Classical to Roman times.
The impressive surviving part of the wall has a straight direction from east to west and is preserved to this day in a length of 60 meters. The wall of Vigla would probably serve to protect the interior of the island in case of a hostile threat from the port side.
