Kasos

ANCIENT CITY (Archaeological Site)

Traces of a Mycenaean settlement have been identified in Poli The settlement was created when the inhabitants of the four pre-existing settlements were moved to the fertile and closest to the Middle East northern part of the island. The ancient city of Kasos (pronounced Polion, Poli) had an acropolis on the Kastro hill, from which remains of the wall are preserved. A paved road led to the port of Emporio.

Traces of the acropolis have been found, several ancient tombs, a marble relief depicting a teenager holding a hare (which was built over the entrance to a windmill and is now detached and exhibited in the archaeological collection), black-figure and red-figure vessels, lykyths and tombstones.
