DAMOS (Archaeological Site)

The area of Damos (Damos = Municipality) is located to the north of the main road, which leads from Chora to Elies.

In the wedge-shaped area between the Drapetis (to the west) and Sycomeria (to the east) gullies, there was an ancient settlement, which flourished from the Early Hellenistic to the Late Roman times, according to the excavation evidence. The excavations of recent years brought to light a paved stepped road, on either side of which houses, workshops, carved wells were found, with an abundance of finds. To the north of the settlement is visible part of the iso-structure wall, which protected it. Outside the wall (to the north) several ancient carved tombs are visible.

To the east of the settlement, nearby, there is a rectangular chamber tomb carved into the rock. Next to it there is a double and two-story, inside the ground.

There are also tombs on the southern outskirts of Damos, which date back to the Hellenistic years.

Near the naydrium of the Prophet Elias, in the middle of the last century, graves were found with gold offerings (plot of Skoni) and others with various clay and bronze objects, such as a bronze hydria handle with the representation of Oreithyia by Borrea.
