Numerous prehistoric sites have been identified on the surface of the island.
Mentioned by Herodotus as a colony of Hermione from 525 BC. Later it passed into the sphere of influence of Samos and was then sold to Troizena. Due to its scarcity of water, the island was mainly a place for grazing the flocks of the neighboring cities of the Peloponnese and a refuge for passing sailors. Remains of ancient retaining walls are preserved in the west and SW. side of the hill separate from the citadel of the city above the port of Vlychos (or Glyfos).

Dokos
In the sea area of ​​Myti Kommeni, a wreck of a Proto-Hellenic ship with a large number of vessels (mid 3rd millennium BC). At the same point on land, a Mycenaean settlement of the 13th century BC.
